First Day of School

The other day I found Zach in his room very carefully packing his backpack with books. Our conversation went something like this:
Me: Hey buddy, what are you doing?
Z: I putting books in backpack.
Me: Oh, are you going somewhere?
Z: Uh-huh.
Me: Are you going to school?
Z: Uh-huh!!! (a huge smile on his face) Bye Mom!!!
He proceded down the stairs and marched to the front door, only to stop and ask for help when he couldn't get it open since it was deadbolted. He just had to go out front and march around the neighborhood proudly with his heavy little backpack.
How did he know that this is what happens?

Stay home with your mother, young man. There's nothing good for you out there.

School already? They do grow up quickly don't they :) I got a booster seat for the dinner table and stuck Bergen in it for fun. He still can't sit up on his own so he was kind of slouching to the side. I looked at him and wondered if I was trying to make him grow up faster than he already is. So I took him out of it and put it away. Later! For now, he's still my tiny little baby. Before too long they really will be going off to school and we will wonder "what happened to my tiny little baby?" :)
