In early June we made it to Louisville's Touch-a-Truck event. Like last year, it was so fun! It was much cooler this year, which was so nice compared to last year's blazing heat. Oz wasn't feeling great, but we decided to go anyways. It wasn't quite as exciting for him as I think it would have been if he were feeling better, but it was still fun. There were so many things to see, but we only hit a small selection. There was even a helicopter this year, but we opted to not wait in the huge line. Besides, there were lots of diggers to climb on.

Eldo
One Saturday I was in a funk that I just couldn't shake. So Cal loaded the boys and I up in the car with my camera and off we went. He didn't tell us where we were going, but he knew just what I needed to de-funkify. We headed to a trailhead in Eldorado Springs that we love. We hiked around a bit and then we found a little side stream that was small and slow enough for the boys to play in. They built a "dam" and threw rocks and dug with sticks. Just what they needed. And I watched and took pictures and marveled at all the wonderful things I was surrounded by. Sure enough it cured my mood and I'm grateful for a husband who knows me so well. 8 years of marriage today! Woo hoo!

oh my
At the end of May Austin got really sick. It started with Zach the week before and went through me and Cal, then hit Austin the hardest. The day after Zach's school program Oz fell asleep on the couch. He no longer naps, and for him to fall asleep on the couch while I was cleaning up is unheard of. I knew he was unwell. We had had cough, sore throat, sinus, fever stuff, but it often hits Austin hard. The next night I put the boys to bed and Cal went to play basketball. Austin fell right asleep and when I took his temperature it was at 103.5. I debated waking him to give him medicine, but decided to wait a little and check in on him again after I was done reading to Zach and had put him to bed. When I checked again I found his temperature to be 105.6! AH! Panic! A little over a year ago when Cal was in Peru he had a fever almost this high and it was bronchitis and pneumonia. I sat with him and tried to cool him down and watched his breathing for awhile. It was not good. It was fast and was kind of jagged and starting and stopping a bit. I tried to call Cal, but of course he was playing basketball and the sound was off on his phone. So I called our on call doctor and they said he needed to be seen immediately. So I called my mom and she went to the church to get Cal, then brought him home (he had ridden with a friend). So my mom stayed with Zach and Cal and I took Oz to urgent care. When we got there there was a wait of at least an hour just to go back, but upon seeing him we were rushed back. They were convinced it was pneumonia, but it turned out not to be, although he did have some gunk in his lungs. They did find he had a terrible ear infection, so he was started on antibiotics, which would also treat pneumonia if it turned into that. He perked up a bit once we got his temperature down and his breathing became more regular. We finally got to go home at about 1 am. Our poor little guy! It is so scary to see you child so sick! And I know it's only a small thing compared to what it could be. We are grateful that it wasn't worse!
Luckily he slept almost the whole time we were at Urgent Care, and wanted to be under his blanket. He was so miserable.
Feeling grateful for good health.
celebrate
On May 20th Zach had his "end of year celebration" at school. I was glad they didn't call it kindergarten graduation. Do we really need a graduation from each grade? Anyway, the 4 kindergarten classes had a cute program planned. They sang lots of songs (with motions) and then took turns saying into the microphone what they want to be when they grow up. They were also supposed to dress up as what they want to be. It was so fun to see! I loved hearing them perform the songs that Zach has been singing to me throughout the year as he's learned them. The real shock is that now we have a first grader. Say it isn't so.
I seriously doubt that he actually wants to be a fireman, but it's cute and was super convenient because we already had the costume. Perfect! Here he is waiting to go in.
The program was in the morning but Cal and my Mom were able to come. Zach was REALLY happy to see us there and kept looking at us and smiling and waving.
All the kindergartners.
The teachers had little graduation bears and necklaces for each kid.
Zach with his wonderful teacher, Mrs. Yang.
books
Oz still loves to "read" books in his room. He no longer has the chair in his room, but I often find him looking at his books on his bed or just on the floor. I'm glad the boys love books as much as I do. :)

Green Crocodiles
Zach played YMCA Jr. Buffs Soccer again this spring. He was on a team again with lots of friends, the Green Crocodiles. They continue to improve and it is fun to see them grow. Zach LOVED soccer! He has a good instinct on the field, about where the ball is going and where he should be. I'm impressed. He still enjoys defense, but is smarter about it now (no longer just hangs out by the goal when the ball is near). Next year we are going to put him in a more competitive league and I think he will enjoy it.
We had a few chilly game days this year.
He likes to yell encouragement and tips to his teammates when he is on the side. Hmmm, where did he learn that?
We can't wait for Fall!
