I hadn't ever gotten to see much of the Sierra Mountains besides around Lake Tahoe, so this trip we decided to do a little hiking near Donner. We even hauled the baby backpack from home for the event. We took a short hike to a beautiful lake, which the Smiths were all quickly in for a swim. I had to laugh because Smith expeditions are so different than Roper expeditions. Ropers: Wait for everyone to be ready, hike together, stay on the trail, and I can't recall us swimming in any lakes that we've hiked to. Smiths: By the time you get the "To the car!" call, it's too late, and everyone is in the car, with some already gone; whoever is out of the car and ready to go when we get there, goes; they have difficulty hiking without a lake (and swimming) destination; and prefer to not be on a trail. I know these things, but they still catch me off guard and make me laugh. We had a fun time and I was impressed with all the beautiful lakes.

It's true! The longer the car ride, the farther we scatter once we're out. And really what is the point of a hike if there is no swimming or at the very least summiting something?
That was some great log riding. I'm surprised more people didn't jump in on it.
Rosie's right, Smith traits were exacerbated by the long car ride, which seems longer when you're going someplace new.
