At the beginning of August we enjoyed a week up in Winter Park with the whole Smith family. We packed in a ton of fun things.
There was plenty of bike riding (both mountain and road) and scooter riding.
The house we stayed in was on a quiet cul de sac, so it was great for riding with the boys.
Where we stayed...
We went to the Hot Sulpher Springs one day. I didn't take my camera so this picture is borrowed from Calli.
Cal's Crew 2!
We headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park one day to explore a bit. We did a fun easy little hike.
Austin loves to load his pockets with rocks. Just in case. Funny boy. It always makes his shorts sag.
Plenty of rock throwing by everyone.
Austin and Jaybird. Austin insisted on wearing his hat backwards because Jay was. Then they both had to have sticks. Austin thought he was hilarious.
After lunch in Grand Lake we did another hike to Adam's Falls.
At the lookout...
Throwing rocks
We had a really cute fox in the backyard of the house who was not shy. We also saw a black bear just outside the house, but I didn't get any pictures.
We went horseback riding at the YMCA of the Rockies. It was the boys first time on horses, and they really liked it. It was an hour long trail ride and really mellow. Zach rode with me and Austin with Cal. I didn't take my camera, but here is a shot from Calli.
We rode the alpine slide 2 different days. The boys loved it. Both wanted to go faster! faster!
Jay, Pete, and Rachel
We played around at the base of the resort and rode the little gondola to the parking lot.
There were some great trails near the house. Cal and I mountain biked this trail, then brought the boys back to play. It was a beautiful area!
More rock throwing. I really do wish I knew just how many rocks we have thrown in water this summer!
While we were there playing, we saw C3 and Pete mountain biking.
We hiked on the Continental Divide Trail from the top of Berthoud Pass.
The boys chose for us to go on a side trail, which ended up dissappearing, but we kept going a bit and ended up at tree line.
We stopped for lunch, but didn't get long before it sprinkled on us and we headed back down.
Zach got a bike for his birthday, but we gave it to him early. He started riding without training wheels! We have a strider bike for Austin, which we adjusted for Zach to ride for a week or two, and he picked right up on his own bike. It was amazing! But that's another post...
On our way home our family decided to go through Rocky Mountain National Park and up over Trail Ridge Road, just for more fun.
We hiked to an old homestead.
MORE rocks
The boys tried out a saddle.
We had a nice picnic lunch, then headed up Trail Ridge. Austin fell asleep, but Zach and I walked out to an overlook.
Trail Ridge
We saw moose and elk on the side of the road.
These pictures don't even encompass all that we did.
It was a really fun week!
