Toward the end of Cal's trip to Peru the boys both got really really sick (of course). Zach had a terrible cough and fever, and Austin had a ridiculously high fever for about a week. Like 104.9 high. (!) I was really scared and have never seen a fever that high before. He felt like he was on fire. It was usually between 102 and the 104's. I literally didn't sleep for days and spent hours on the phone to our pediatrician and nurses, and many teary middle of the night calls to the on-call people at Children's Hospital (they take our pediatrician's call). Eventually Austin started coughing too and Zach's fever went up too... but Zach never seemed quite as sick as Austin. I'm not sure how many office visits we ended up with, but I was sure Austin was going to have to be admitted to the hospital (and he almost was). Our doctor later admitted that she was really worried about him. We had to buy a nebulizer and use it on both boys. We went through 4 different antibiotics. And I was giving ibuprofin to Austin around the clock for awhile, trying to keep his fever down. I really had to carefully keep track of who had what medicine and when and what their temps and such were. Poor boys!! They had bronchitis and pneumonia. I got pretty sick too after about a week of caring for them, but didn't end up getting as sick or needing meds. Ugh.
My usually very active boys would find the sunny spots on the floor from our skylights and would flop there and just lay there.
Austin hated the nebulizer at first and would scream and cry and really fight it. (and I would cry trying to pin down my poor sick boy...). After a day or two though he calmed down and would even hold it himself some. We watched a ton of Jake and the Neverland Pirates that week to two weeks!

Saddest post in your blog history - poor little guys! The photo of them lying in the sunny patches just killed me. Hope it's nothing but good health from here on out.
